Tourism education at UIS Socorro is entering a new phase. Through Resolution 024474 of December 17, 2025, the Ministry of National Education renewed the Qualified Registration of the academic program and approved its new name: Tourism and Hospitality Business Administration, a decision that strengthens its academic and professional projection at the national and international levels.
The program will hold qualified registration for seven years, will be offered in the municipality of Socorro, and will continue contributing to the development of the tourism and hospitality sector in the region.
For engineer Julio Alfonso Martínez Molina, coordinator of UIS Socorro, this change represents a significant opportunity for students and the region: “The new name strengthens students’ cognitive, procedural, and attitudinal competencies, expanding graduates’ employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Without a doubt, this major step strengthens their professional profile, responding more effectively to current dynamics in the national and global tourism and hospitality sector.”
The general purpose of the Tourism and Hospitality Business Administration program is to train well-rounded professionals competent in planning, management, organization, and control of resources and processes in institutions and companies directly and indirectly related to tourism activities, including lodging and accommodation, food and beverage services, transportation, recreation and leisure, conventions and trade events, travel agencies, and destination management. In addition, the program will have a duration of eight semesters, a curriculum of 128 academic credits, and admission of up to 45 students per cohort.
