The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, through Resolution 000010 of January 6, 2026, established the reporting, verification, recognition, and organization of monthly remuneration and affiliation to the Comprehensive Social Security System for medical interns. This development comes as part of the labor reform proposed and approved by the current government.

Therefore, starting in January 2026, UIS medical students entering levels XI and XII for one year will receive the current legal minimum monthly wage, plus the cost of affiliation to ARL, pension fund, and health insurance.

This monthly allowance will be received by the medical intern as educational support within the framework of the rotating internship that corresponds to the last year of academic training in accordance with the curriculum established by the Higher Education Institution in which they are enrolled.

The sole purpose of this support is to facilitate the student’s training and, therefore, it does not constitute a salary or any other form of employment credit, nor does it generate emoluments or social benefits of any kind between the student and the healthcare provider or the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

Payment of this educational support may not exceed the term of one (1) year of rotating internship contemplated in the program’s curriculum.

In this sense, this new development dignifies and contributes to the economic sustainability of students and their families who are completing the academic program in Medicine. In turn, the University reduces the ARL payment for these beneficiary students, as it will now be made through ADRES (Administrator of Resources of the General Social Security System for Health).

This new development facilitates the inclusion of students in all practical settings, including those institutions that previously did not have the option of paying a half-minimum wage bonus that had been previously established with the UIS.
