The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) officially appointed eight professors who will take over the management of various academic schools and departments, in a ceremony that strengthens the university’s institutional management and academic leadership.
The appointed professors are Olga Lucía Uribe Enciso, director of the School of Languages; Jorge Enrique Buitrago Espitia, from the Department of Physical Education and Sports; Nicolás Esteban Hernández Bustos, from the School of Arts; and Óscar Arnulfo Quiroga Quiroga, from the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunications Engineering.

Juan Paulo Serrano Pastrana also took on the role of Director of the Department of Surgery; Fernando Rodríguez Sanabria, Director of the Department of Basic Sciences; Jackeline Jaimes Becera, Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Claudia Paola Acevedo Villafañe, Director of the Department of Pediatrics.
Professor Olga Mercedes Álvarez Ojeda, Academic Vice-Rector of the UIS, expressed her gratitude to the newly appointed professors for accepting these new positions and highlighted the great academic and administrative responsibility that they entail.
“Thank you for wanting to continue this wonderful work, and to those who are joining us for the first time: it is an immense challenge, but also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the University and, above all, to contribute to its development,” said Vice-Rector Álvarez Ojeda.
She also recalled that during her time at the University, which has been nearly 24 years, she has realized that, although the role of teaching is of absolute importance, being on the administrative side helps us to set milestones and make things happen.
“So, if professors want or need to develop something, we, as professors who understand the needs and who are in administrative positions, can make the projects a reality,” said Álvarez Ojeda.
With this appointment, the UIS reaffirms its commitment to strengthening academic leadership, educational quality, and the development of its mission of teaching, research, and outreach, for the benefit of the university community and the region.
