UIS professors participated in the Biological Sciences Congress in Montería

Professors Clara Inés Sánchez Suárez and Olga Marcela Medina Pérez from the School of Microbiology attended the 60th National and 11th International Biological Sciences Congress held in Montería. Professor Clara Inés gave an oral presentation entitled: “Resistance to triazole drugs in colonizing Candida species isolated from ICU patients in Santander.”

This presentation was part of the results of the project ‘Development of a personalized medicine strategy for the preventive management, diagnosis, and treatment of candidiasis in adult intensive care units in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga’, funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Minciencias) under contract number 1102-897-86269.

Professor Olga Marcela presented the work ‘Comparison of digestion methods for the analysis of mercury (Hg) in blood using atomic absorption spectrometry’ as part of the results of students and professors from the Environmental Toxicology and Toxicogenomics Research Group, sponsored by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Extension (VIE) of the Industrial University of Santander.

Participation in this event allowed for the construction of networks of collaboration and trust for the realization of future projects.
