
As part of the 78th anniversary of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, the UIS Barbosa campus commemorated Journalists’ Day with a special event recognizing the essential role of the media and their contribution to regional development.
During the ceremony, the career of Luis Eduardo Pico was recognized with a special distinction for his commitment to journalism and his contributions to strengthening communication in Colombia. As founder of the Asociación Red Nacional de Medios y Periodistas de Colombia, he has promoted a network that fosters unity, training, and support for journalists, encouraging professional development and collaborative work among media representatives from different regions of the country.
During the celebration, Luis Eduardo Pico expressed his gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the University’s gesture toward those who work every day to keep communities in eastern Colombia informed.
“The UIS Barbosa campus has paid tribute to journalists by presenting recognitions, including one to our Red Nacional de Medios y Periodistas. It is a meaningful gesture to bring together communication professionals from across the region in a special gathering to share a toast and celebrate the 78 years of the Universidad Industrial de Santander serving Colombia and the world. Thank you very much, UIS,” he said.

The event brought together journalists and media representatives from Barbosa, Vélez, and Moniquirá, highlighting the importance of responsible reporting and its role in building a well-informed society.
