As part of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) held the Academic Forum 8M: “Making Visible the Economy that Sustains Life”, a space for reflection hosted at UIS Bucarica – Salón Hormiga, which brought together professors, students, and social organizations to analyze the value of care work in society.
During the event, professors from the School of Law and Political Science shared academic analyses and research related to the care economy, as well as experiences derived from the work carried out by the UIS Legal Clinic, which supports communities and vulnerable populations.
The forum also featured representatives from social organizations. Among them was María Claudia Caballero, partner at Fundación Mujer y Futuro, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces for dialogue and reflection within academia.
“It is an interesting meeting because women talk about care work, identify its strengths, and emphasize the importance of making it visible, as well as how it contributes to the development of countries,” she said.
Initiatives such as this forum strengthen the dialogue between academia, civil society, and institutions, promoting the analysis of key issues for building a more equitable society and recognizing the historical contributions women have made in social, economic, and community spheres.
The forum was organized by the Gender Cross-Cutting Line of the UIS Legal Clinic, in collaboration with the Faculty of Human Sciences and the School of Law and Political Science, as part of the academic activities that promote critical reflection and social commitment at the University.
