This Wednesday: Election of the Representative to the UIS Human Rights and Conciliation Committee

This Wednesday, December 3, the voting will take place for the election of faculty representatives to the UIS Human Rights and Conciliation Committee for the 2025-2027 term. The candidate who has put his name forward for this position is Professor Jhon Alexander Poveda Jurado, who proposes the following:

1. Promote clear regulations for the parliamentary operation of the Human Rights and Conciliation Committee.

2. Conduct training and outreach sessions on the powers and services that the committee can provide to the university community.

3. Foster training opportunities and awareness campaigns to educate the university community on human rights and peaceful conflict resolution.

We invite all affiliated faculty members to participate. Faculty members, including tutors at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, who work on an occasional or part-time basis, are invited to participate in the voting process, which will take place online between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on December 3rd. They can access the University’s election system in the faculty section via the “Election Processes” link.

It is important to remember that the Human Rights and Conciliation Committee of the Industrial University of Santander has the following functions:

*To advise and guide the university community regarding matters brought to its attention. *Receive, process, and follow up on complaints or reports from members of the university community regarding violations of fundamental rights and related regulations.

*Seek conciliatory solutions in conflict situations among members of the university community.

*Mediate with public authorities to ensure respect for the human rights of members of the university community.

*Promote and recommend training, outreach, and research activities in human rights.

*Propose amendments to university regulations.

*Regularly inform the university community about the activities of the Human Rights and Conciliation Committee.

*Disseminate to the university community the actions and recommendations regarding the protection and monitoring of human rights proposed by the Human Rights and Conciliation Committee.
