UIS Library to Conduct Earthquake Evacuation Drill on October 21

On Wednesday, October 21, the Central Library will conduct an earthquake evacuation drill.

As part of its efforts to strengthen emergency prevention and preparedness, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) will conduct an earthquake evacuation drill at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, at the Central Campus Library.

The activity is part of the Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response Program, led by the Directorate of Human Talent Management (DGTH) through its Occupational Safety and Health Subprocess. Each year, the program implements strategies aimed at strengthening the university community’s ability to prevent emergencies and respond effectively when they occur.

The Central Library was selected for this exercise because of the high volume of people who visit its facilities daily. Planning and coordination are being carried out in collaboration with the library’s leadership team to review the logistical and operational arrangements required to conduct the drill.

An Exercise to Ensure an Immediate Response

The drill is being conducted in accordance with the recommendations of Colombia’s National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the guidelines issued by the Ministries of Education and Labor, and the provisions established in the UIS Emergency Plan.

During the exercise, several aspects will be assessed, including evacuation routes, the designated assembly point, emergency response procedures, and coordination mechanisms for managing an emergency.

The drill will also simulate an incident involving a person injured after falling down the stairs. This scenario will make it possible to assess the response capabilities and coordination of the Emergency Response Brigade and the Emergency Response Facilitators (DRE) when handling an incident that requires assistance.

In this way, the drill will not only help identify opportunities to improve established procedures but also strengthen a culture of prevention and preparedness within the university community in the face of situations that could put people’s safety at risk.
