UIS Fosters New Connections Across Disciplines and Fields of Knowledge Through Digital Humanities Week

The UIS School of Social Work contributed to the coordination and implementation of Digital Humanities Week.

Connecting knowledge, sharing experiences, and finding new ways to understand society’s challenges were among the key goals of Digital Humanities Week 2026. The event fostered academic dialogue through collaborative work and the integration of different fields of knowledge.

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) participated through its Digital Humanities CoLaboratory, an initiative that brought members of the academic community together to explore the opportunities digital technologies offer.

This year, UIS also joined the organizing team alongside the Argentine Association of Digital Humanities and the Colombian Digital Humanities Network.

Digital Humanities as a Meeting Point

The CoLaboratory emerged from the interest of several research groups within the Faculty of Human Sciences in building a community around this field. Its mission is to create opportunities for participants to share initiatives, exchange perspectives, and develop collaborative projects.

The Digital Humanities Week program supported this goal through discussions and reflection sessions involving undergraduate and graduate students, doctoral candidates, and professors from different faculties. Wikimedia Colombia also took part, sharing its experience and the initiatives it is developing in connection with Digital Humanities.

Ana María Loaiza, a professor at the School of Social Work, highlighted the importance of the CoLaboratory:

“For us, the most important aspects of the educational work we carry out within the CoLaboratory are openness, making the most of digital tools, and creating opportunities for interdisciplinary dialogue with engineering and the sciences.”

This approach highlights the potential of digital tools and interdisciplinary collaboration to better understand social issues and explore possible solutions through shared knowledge.

Through initiatives like these, UIS continues to create opportunities for academic cooperation and the integration of different fields of knowledge. In doing so, the university strengthens an academic community where the humanities engage in dialogue with other disciplines to generate new perspectives and expand research opportunities.
