The Tuna of the Industrial University of Santander (Tuna UIS) participated in the First International Tuna Competition in Barrio Antiguo, Oaxaca, Mexico—an event that brought together groups from different backgrounds to celebrate the musical and cultural tradition of university tunas.
This participation provided an opportunity to showcase, on an international stage, the artistic and cultural work that Tuna UIS carries out at the university, bringing to Oaxaca an expression unique to its musical identity and the tuna tradition that has accompanied generations of students and alumni.
During the competition, the group stood out for its interpretation of various rhythms and its performance on the tambourine, a signature element of its musical style. As a result of its participation, the Tuna UIS received the award for Best Tambourine Performance, a distinction that highlights the technical skill, discipline, and dedication of its members in preparing for each performance.
Beyond the recognition it received, the event helped strengthen cultural and musical ties among university groups from different regions, providing a space for the exchange of repertoires, traditions, and experiences that keep the tuna culture alive.
