III Microscopy Workshop Brings Experts Together to Advance Scientific Research

Third Edition of the Basic and Advanced Microscopy Workshop.

The third edition of the Basic and Advanced Microscopy Workshop kicked off at the Guatiguará Technology Park of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), featuring lectures, specialized talks, and a poster exhibition under the theme “Connecting Science, Engineering, and Innovation at the Microscopy Scale.”

The academic event brings together students, faculty members, and researchers to share experiences and explore the latest advances in microscopy observation and characterization techniques. Institutions such as Tsinghua University, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and the Colombian Geological Survey, among others, are participating in the event.

The program features opportunities for academic exchange and engagement with emerging technologies through demonstration sessions, commercial exhibitions, and poster presentations. These activities provide participants with insights into new methodologies, equipment, and applications of microscopy tools across different fields of research.

A Hub of Scientific Discovery

The workshop will feature discussions and activities covering a wide range of topics, including materials characterization, electron microscopy applied to electrocatalysts, research into cell-based cancer therapies, nanofossil studies, and the analysis of minerals associated with natural hydrogen generation.

Carlos Alberto Ríos Reyes, coordinator of the UIS Microscopy Laboratory, highlighted the collaborative nature of the event:

“We have made a concerted effort to invite speakers from the region, universities, research groups, and international professional communities, all with a focus on microscopy. We also aim to broaden the scope of its applications and share research conducted throughout participants’ academic and professional training.”

Undergraduate and graduate students attended the event at the Guatiguará Technology Park auditorium.

The workshop strengthens connections between academia and the productive sector by promoting knowledge and the adoption of specialized techniques that contribute to scientific advancement.
