
The Industrial University of Santander carried out an outreach activity in the rural area of Girón, Santander. During the event, the University donated educational furniture and promoted science, technology, and higher education opportunities for students of Miguel Sánchez Hinestroza School.
Donations with Social Responsibility strengthened the school’s learning spaces through the delivery of furniture and educational materials. These resources will support students’ academic activities and well-being.
Students also participated in science, technology, and innovation activities. In addition, the Institute for Regional Outreach and Distance Education (IPRED) introduced its academic programs and educational opportunities to the community.
Fabián Eliecer Mejía Sánchez, assistant at the UIS Inventory Section, explained that the initiative focuses on delivering furniture and materials in good condition to rural schools. The goal is to help educational communities continue using these resources in their learning processes.



UIS donated educational furniture in Girón
Lizeth Vargas, researcher of the STEM Móvilab project, highlighted that this was the first joint activity between Donations with Social Responsibility and STEM Móvilab. She explained that the initiative aimed to strengthen educational conditions in rural schools and encourage students to explore science and research.
The school community also welcomed the initiative. Juan Carlos Rueda Ortiz, principal of Miguel Sánchez Hinestroza School, emphasized the importance of bringing academic opportunities and educational activities to rural students.

Likewise, tenth-grade student Louis Santiago Romero Chaparro said the activities allowed students to learn more about science and technology. He also noted that the experience helped them expand their knowledge and approach research methodologies.
Through initiatives like this, the Industrial University of Santander continues strengthening its commitment to public education and the development of rural communities across the region.
