As part of her rotation in the area of Public Nutrition, Sara Valentina Pérez Rojas, a tenth-semester student in Nutrition and Dietetics, participated in the first assemblies of families benefiting from the Food Sustainability Program (SUSTENTA) held in the municipalities of Vélez and Onzaga, in the department of Santander, on October 27 and 30.
These activities were carried out in the company of Néstor Mendieta, co-founder of the Corporation for the Participatory Construction of Public Health (Obusinga).
The purpose of the assemblies was to socialize a marketing strategy aimed at strengthening the rural economy, guaranteeing access to healthy and sustainable food, and advancing the progressive guarantee of the human right to food. It also sought to raise awareness among producer families about the benefits of this strategy for their economic and social development. To this end, a market simulation game was implemented, based on the real dynamics of marketing their products.
The School of Nutrition and Dietetics’ participation in these scenarios reinforces its commitment to public policy on food and nutritional security, contributing technical knowledge from academia and linking it to the needs and realities of rural areas. These types of training practices allow students to have meaningful experiences that help them understand how social impact programs are designed, managed, implemented, and evaluated.
In this way, the School contributes to the training of professionals capable of leading intersectoral processes, with technical, communication, and teamwork skills, and a deep sense of social responsibility. Nutritionists are positioned as key agents in the construction of more just, healthy, and sustainable environments for communities.
