With an awareness day aimed at the entire university community, the Specialized Health Unit of the Industrial University of Santander, UISALUD, commemorated World Suicide Prevention Day. During the activity, visits were made to different areas of the institution, including Human Resources, Training, Institutional Welfare, Legal, the Rector’s Office, and the UISALUD headquarters itself, with the aim of spreading a message of support and awareness.

In each space, a talk was given on the importance of mental health, reinforcing that this aspect is an essential pillar of overall well-being. A symbolic gift was also given as a reminder of the date, and UISALUD’s Mental Health Care Pathway was shared, which includes early identification of cases, scheduling appointments with psychologists or psychiatrists, activating a multidisciplinary team, and, if necessary, referral to psychiatric emergencies, with continuous follow-up tailored to each patient.

The event was attended by healthcare professionals, managers, and collaborators, who joined the World Health Organization (WHO) in calling for an end to stigma, encouraging open dialogue, and promoting public policies that guarantee comprehensive mental health care.
UISALUD psychologist Cristian Santamaría highlighted the importance of these actions: “Within the framework of promotion and prevention, we held this commemorative event, visiting different areas of the university to share a very important message about suicide prevention as a strategy to positively impact our community. We shared the Mental Health Care Pathway, designed to manage risk situations such as suicidal ideation, and reinforced the need to establish bonds of support and emotional containment that allow for timely referral to experts specialized in this area.”

With this initiative, UISALUD reaffirms its commitment to the humanization program and the unit’s communications plan, promoting a culture of prevention and support for the benefit of students, teachers, staff, and the entire university community.
