UIS women inspire, transform, and strengthen the university community

With an event filled with recognition, gratitude, and admiration, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) commemorates International Women’s Day, a date that invites reflection on the fundamental role of women in building a more just, equitable, and supportive society.

The celebration takes place at the Scientific Complex for Health and Life Sciences Research of the Faculty of Health, a space that brings together professors, researchers, and staff in a special day dedicated to highlighting the talent, resilience, and commitment of the women who are part of the university community.

During the event, the University recognizes the work of those who, from classrooms, laboratories, offices, and various institutional settings, contribute daily with their knowledge, leadership, and dedication to the academic, scientific, and human development of the UIS.

More than just a date on the calendar, March 8 represents an opportunity to honor women’s historic struggles for equal rights and full participation in all areas of society. In this regard, the University remains committed to promoting safe, inclusive, and respectful environments where women’s talents and abilities can be fully developed.

The activity also becomes a space for meeting and reflection that highlights the stories, experiences, and contributions of women who, with their dedication and determination, inspire new generations and strengthen the spirit of the university community.

Voices from the UIS community

For many of the attendees, the day represented a significant moment of recognition and integration. Paula Fernanda Vargas Saavedra, a teacher at the Language Institute, highlighted the cultural atmosphere of the event: “I loved the cultural activities, the tuna, and all the details. I think it’s really cool that they include us in a space to celebrate our day.”

For her part, Mónica Álvarez Gómez, secretary of the Department of Pediatrics, expressed her gratitude to the institution: “I am grateful to the UIS and our rector for always taking us into account and celebrating our day, and for highlighting our work as women within the university community.”

Finally, Karen Xiomara Forigua Mayorga, a professional from the dean’s office of the Faculty of Physical-Mechanical Engineering, highlighted the organization and the atmosphere of integration: “I thought everything was very nice: the integration, the organization. Above all, the tuna performance was spectacular and all the activities were very special. Thank you very much.”
