The Industrial University of Santander is once again ranked among the top performers at Colombia’s most important scientific initiation event, Xpoilers 2025, after winning one gold medal and three silver medals.

For the fourth consecutive year, the UIS has qualified for the finals of the event, which brings together the results of research being carried out by higher education students in Colombia. On this occasion, four STEAM+H seedling students presented their degree projects, developed under the supervision of Jenny Patricia Acevedo Rincón, professor at the School of Mathematics.

The work of student María José Cabeza Herrera was recognized with a gold medal for her monologue presented in the work entitled: “Research Seedbed: Biodiversity in the lava dome of the Cerro Machín Volcano,” in the Natural and Agricultural Sciences category.

“I feel proud, happy, and grateful to see that my project grew under the care of the STEAM+H seedbed and today receives national recognition,” said Cabeza Herrera.

Jefferson Mendoza Serrano stood out with a silver medal for his monologue presented in the category of Administrative, Financial, and Accounting Sciences, entitled “Ecotourism on Cerro Machín Volcano: A Seedbed for Research.”

“Winning this silver medal at Xpoilers is an honor that reflects the efforts of the seedbed. I invite all students to take advantage of opportunities such as research internships in funded projects like ours at MinCiencias, which strengthen our knowledge,” said Mendoza Serrano.

Finally, students Carol Juliana Meneses Angarita and Luisa Fernanda Gelvez won silver medals with their presentation entitled: “Revolutionize Your Classes: Mathematical Sequences and Patterns Enhanced by AI and the Specialized Knowledge of the Mathematics Teacher,” who participated in the Social Sciences category.

This achievement represents the effort and constant participation of the STEAM+H Seedbed seedbeds, who are participating for the fourth year to accumulate eight medals since the first event held in 2022.

This event encourages the presentation of research through Scientific Stand-up, in which research is presented, promoting the development of scientific and communication skills through activities of social appropriation of knowledge under scientific and technological developments, as proposed by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, MinCiencias.

Xpoilers is an annual science outreach and communication strategy organized by Iniciación Científica (Colombia), inspired by activities carried out at the Cheltenham Science Festival (United Kingdom) and the École Supérieure des Technologies Industrielles Avancées (France).
