The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to strengthen spaces dedicated to education, community engagement, and the well-being of its community. On this occasion, new furniture was delivered for the Study Center at the School of Civil Engineering, and a new lounge area was made available to students.
These spaces were designed to provide students with suitable environments for their academic activities, as well as places that encourage interaction, social engagement, and opportunities to take a break during their university day.
The delivery event was attended by Rector Hernán Porras, university administrators, staff members, professors, and students from the School of Civil Engineering. Their presence marked an important step toward strengthening the conditions that support campus life.
Renovation of the School of Civil Engineering
Renovation work began between July 19 and August 15. The project involved demolishing faculty offices to build two classrooms with capacities of 36 and 35 students, respectively. A study area was also created, featuring two computer labs and a co-working space.
As part of the improvements to the Study Center, the facility now includes ten chairs for individual study, nine tables with seating for four and five students, and five group-study tables with double-sided furniture. In addition, five cabinets were installed for book storage, along with a display stand with a capacity of 1,500 books, four display cases for showcasing products, and a cabinet with ten lockers for members of the center. Four air-conditioning units and a fully equipped kitchen were also installed as part of the renovation.
María Camila Villarreal, a Civil Engineering student, highlighted the work carried out at the UIS facility: “We are grateful and happy. We had been waiting for the Study Center, the classrooms, and the other academic spaces for some time. We are delighted that this space has been transformed in such a beautiful way, providing comfortable areas where people can come to study, eat, and relax, as well as a terrace where they can enjoy the scenery. It is truly incredible. We thank the administration because this space will not only benefit us, but also future generations”.
Through these initiatives, UIS continues to work on improving and strengthening spaces that respond to the needs of its student community and complement the institution’s comprehensive educational programs.
