UIS professors were recognized for their legacy and career achievements

UIS faculty members recognized for their careers were honored during UIS Teachers’ Day 2026, in recognition of their contributions to public education, the training of professionals, and the development of the region.

The Industrial University of Santander commemorated UIS Teachers’ Day 2026 with a ceremony honoring current and retired faculty members who, through their years of service, have contributed to the academic growth of the institution. The event celebrated the dedication, longevity, and commitment of those who have made public education a lifelong mission in the service of society.

A life dedicated to teaching and transforming

The University presented one of its special honors to retired professor Luis Orlando Aguirre Rodríguez, naming him Professor Emeritus. The professor noted that this honor represents a collective recognition of the university community.

“It was a huge surprise for me to receive this honor. More than a personal tribute, I consider it a recognition of the entire university community that I represented in various national and international settings. Having been a professor at UIS is a source of pride and immense satisfaction, because through the university I was able to fulfill myself as a human being and help shape other human beings,” said Aguirre Rodríguez.

The University also honored faculty members with 30, 35, and 40 years of service, recognizing their longevity and contribution to the students’ well-rounded education.

Professor Gabriel Ordóñez Plata, who was honored for 40 years of service, highlighted the human and social value of teaching.

“It is a great honor to continue working for so many years to provide the best education for our students. The university gives us the opportunity to continue contributing to the country through education, and that keeps our teaching vocation alive,” he said.

For her part, Professor Miriam Ruiz, recognized for her 30 years of service, stated: “For me, this represents the result of a journey of continuous growth.”

“It is a great honor to receive this medal after 30 years of service. These 30 years have allowed me to grow personally and professionally and to interact with students, colleagues, and administrative staff. This entire journey is reflected in these awards,” he said.

With this commemoration, the UIS reiterated its gratitude to the faculty members who have dedicated their lives to public education. Furthermore, it reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, human development, and social transformation.
