The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) is moving forward in strengthening its physical infrastructure with the commissioning of five new elevators on the central campus, an action aimed at improving accessibility, internal mobility, and the well-being of the entire university community.
This intervention responds to the institutional commitment to offer more inclusive, functional, and safe spaces, facilitating the daily movement of students, professors, staff, and visitors, especially those with reduced mobility.
Modern elevators for more agile and inclusive mobility
The new equipment consists of elevators from Schindler and Paantec, brands renowned for their high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. Specifically, five Schindler elevators were installed: two in the Language Institute, two in UISALUD, and one in the PRO Welfare building. In addition, there are two Paantec elevators, one located in the Chemical Engineering building and a freight elevator for the Library, which will optimize the internal transport of materials and strengthen the logistical processes of this academic space,” said Deicy Dalila Delgado Diaz, head of the UIS Technological Maintenance Division.
For the student community, this improvement represents a significant change in the daily experience on campus. “I think it’s good because, as a student at such a large university, sometimes you have to run to class. The elevator makes everything so much easier. You get really tired walking, and it’s also perfect for people with disabilities,” said Sara Hernández Pérez, a student in the Nursing program.
Along the same lines, Alejandro Enciso Cañas, a civil engineering student, highlighted the importance of this implementation: “It is a very necessary and effective measure because it improves agility in moving from one class to another, especially for those who are in a hurry. But most importantly, it contributes to the inclusion of people with disabilities or reduced mobility.”

Well-being and efficiency for the entire university community
From an administrative standpoint, the installation of the elevators also has a positive impact on campus efficiency. Nathalia Andrea Rueda Díaz, a UIS official, pointed out that this measure “minimizes travel time for the entire university community,” promoting the development of academic and work activities.
With this intervention, the UIS reaffirms its commitment to eliminating architectural barriers and building a more accessible and inclusive campus, in line with the current needs of its community. The commissioning of these elevators is part of the University’s ongoing efforts to modernize its spaces and consolidate environments that promote well-being, equity, and quality of university life
