The Universidad Industrial de Santander will have 270 athletes in the National University Games Ascún of Bucaramanga after overcoming the classification phases both at zonal and regional level.
The last team to obtain the quotas was the Athletics team, a discipline that had its competition program last weekend. The UIS will be represented in 100 meters, 400 meters, relays, jumps, hurdles, among other modalities, reaching the number of 18 classified, being the selection with the most participants, only surpassed by the Karate Do team that totaled 23.
This will be the 32nd edition of the Ascún National Games, the most important university sports competitions in Colombia, which will be held again in the capital of Santander after 15 years.
“The headquarters of the National Ascún has a rotation for each of the six nodes and this year it is the turn of the East Node, so from the organization Bucaramanga was chosen as the venue. This is how we are working among the higher education institutions of the city and the region for the logistics of the games,” said Fabio Villafrades Gonzalez, director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports UIS.
The number of 270 qualified athletes surpasses the 135 representatives from last year’s edition. Now the goal of the UIS delegation is to improve the 35 medals obtained in 2024 in Pereira and Armenia.
There the balance was seven gold, six silver and 22 bronze.
