The School of Nutrition manages dual degree agreements with the University of Guadalajara

Profesora Herminia Váldes

The School of Nutrition and Dietetics was delighted to welcome Dr. Elia Herminia Valdés Miramontes, an expert professor in functional food development and nutrition at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, who gave a keynote lecture entitled “Biofunctional potential of plant metabolites: the Milpa diet, a proposal for healthy eating” on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

The purpose of Dr. Valdés’ visit to the School of Nutrition was to review possibilities for dual degrees between UIS and University of Guadalajara students for undergraduate and graduate programs. In other words, students will be able to travel and attend the visiting university while also taking courses in their home country. Her presence strengthened the school’s internationalization processes and allowed for significant progress in the development of academic agreements.

“The UIS is a great institution. We have common lines of research. We are countries that have always worked together, universities that have very specific goals such as research and multidisciplinarity, and I believe that in these times, collaborative work between different national and international institutions is beneficial for the institutions,” said Dr. Herminia.

This valuable exchange reaffirms the Industrial University of Santander’s commitment to comprehensive education, applied nutrition science, and the promotion of international partnerships that expand opportunities for students and faculty.
