UIS Strengthens the Exchange of Best Practices for More Inclusive Higher Education

The UIS Vice President for Academic Affairs welcomed higher education representatives from Bucaramanga and Manizales, sharing successful experiences and best practices.

Representatives from the UNAB, UDES and UNIOC visited the Central Campus to learn about its institutional services and best practices that have established the university as a mentor institution in the Student Well-Being pillar of Colombia’s inclusive higher education initiative.

The visit took place the National Strategy for Strengthening Public and Private Higher Education in Colombia, led by the national government in collaboration with the Colombian Network of Higher Education Institutions for Disability (CIESD), the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN), and the Saldarriaga Concha Foundation.

Professionals from higher education institutions in Manizales and Bucaramanga visited the Central Campus to learn about UIS’s successful experience.

UIS a National Leader in Inclusive Higher Education

UIS presented a report documenting news coverage, successful initiatives, and support provided to members of the university community, showcasing its experience and institutional commitment to inclusion and student well-being.

The university received a 100% score in the evaluation, recognizing its commitment to student well-being and inclusion. This achievement also promotes the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and strategies among higher education institutions across Colombia.

María Isabel Pinzón Ochoa, National Coordinator of the CIESD Network, stated:

“The idea is to continue this strategy in 2027, strengthening UIS’s mentoring processes and inviting other regions to learn from its experience. In addition, we will prepare a report outlining improvement measures to share with UNESCO”.

Stefhany Campos Pérez, a professional at UNIOC, commented: “I found the experience very enriching. It allowed us to learn about the university’s institutional services and strengthen the national collaborative laboratory strategy at our university. UIS offers outstanding human support and a wide range of services focused on the comprehensive well-being of the university community.”

This visit reaffirms UIS’s commitment to building a more inclusive, equitable, and accessible higher education system. Through knowledge-sharing and institutional mentoring, UIS continues to support efforts to make higher education more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
