The book *El rugir de un sueño: Atlético Bucaramanga, City and History* had a successful launch during the 24th edition of the Bucaramanga Book Fair (Ulibro). The publication, written by historians from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS)—Yezid David Sequeda Garrido, Fabián Schneider Solano Pico, Víctor Manuel Peña Melo, and Raúl Mauricio Prada Solano—and compiled by Miguel Darío Cuadros Sánchez, also a historian and professor at the university, sold out on the first day of its presentation.
“This book is also a dream come true for each of us as historians, as members of the UIS School of History, as alumni, and as students. It is the culmination of many years of work. I was very moved to share this moment with my colleagues. I felt great; it’s one of those beautiful things that history gives you. It’s the effort you’ve put in over the years that ultimately pays off,” said Yezid David Sequeda Garrido, co-author of the book.
The publication, published by Ediciones UIS, was presented at a discussion event where the authors shared details, experiences, and anecdotes with the audience regarding their research and the process of creating the book.
“It was very exciting to see the reception at the Book Fair. To see so many people from different walks of life—UIS alumni, students, colleagues, and professors from various departments—and to sense that there is genuine interest within the community. I believe this book specifically allows people to find other ways to engage with the club, other ways to engage with the team—through reading, through analysis, through connecting with the context—and that makes us very, very satisfied,” said Miguel Darío Cuadros Sánchez, the book’s editor.
Soccer, History, and Memory
“The Roar of a Dream” reconstructs different moments in the history of Atlético Bucaramanga through episodes and key figures that have shaped the team’s evolution. The book also explores various aspects of Bucaramanga’s history during the 20th and 21st centuries, examining sports and the city’s social and cultural transformations.
For its authors, one of the publication’s main contributions lies in its ability to recover and preserve the city’s memory through stories linked to soccer.
“I am hopeful that this project will be very important for the city, so much so that the Santander Academy of History is pioneering the effort to recover the history of the working classes, that oral sources are becoming part of the department’s history, that books are being published, and that there are public spaces in the city dedicated to historical remembrance centered on soccer,” emphasized Fabián Schneider Solano Pico, co-author of the book.
The success of its launch—with copies selling out on the first day of the Ulibro Book Fair—demonstrates the interest this publication sparked among readers and fans of soccer and the history of Bucaramanga.
