Research and medical education at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) extend beyond borders. From October 27 to 31, 2026, representatives of the institution are participating in the 25th Congress of the Ibero-Latin American College of Dermatology (CILAD), held in Porto, Portugal, where they are presenting three scientific studies related to dermatological diseases, epidemiology, and the treatment of infections in pediatric populations.

The delegation is presenting two scientific posters and one oral presentation, providing opportunities to share research findings, exchange knowledge with international specialists, and strengthen the academic presence of the Universidad Industrial de Santander on the global stage.

The studies presented are:

  • Poster: Current Overview of Basal Cell Carcinoma in Colombia: A Narrative Review of Epidemiological, Diagnostic, and Therapeutic Evidence. This review examines advances and challenges in understanding and managing this type of skin cancer in Colombia.
  • Poster: Pansclerotic Scleroderma Associated with a STAT3 Gene Variant: A Case Report. This presentation describes a clinical case of interest in the study of rare dermatological diseases.
  • Oral Presentation: Clinical Outcomes and Adverse Events of Short-Course Antibiotic Therapy in Pediatric Patients with Skin and Skin Structure Infections at Two Institutions in Bucaramanga. This study aims to analyze the clinical outcomes and safety of this therapeutic approach in pediatric patients.

The last study features the participation of Dr. María Carolina Gómez Franco, a Pediatrics resident, and María Camila Delgado Fuentes, a tenth-semester medical student, alongside professors Zully Ballesteros, Luis Miguel Sosa Ávila, and Giovanny Beltrán.

Participation in this international event was made possible through the UIS Institutional Mobility Program, which promotes academic exchange and facilitates the participation of students, medical residents, and researchers in scientific events of global significance.

Through this experience, the Universidad Industrial de Santander reaffirms its commitment to research, the training of healthcare professionals, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge, strengthening international academic partnerships and contributing to the search for solutions to current healthcare challenges.
