The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) closed its induction and welcome week for first-year students for the 2026-1 academic period with a sports day. The event took place at the sports facilities on the main campus, starting at the UIS Coliseum.
The day began with a greeting from the new director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Professor Jorge Buitrago, who presented the functions carried out there and explained the different alternatives for students to join the University’s sports teams.
Afterwards, the new members of the university community visited 45 stations distributed throughout the sports fields, where they participated in various disciplines and physical activities in an atmosphere of integration, enthusiasm, and well-being. The students also highlighted the excellent condition of the sports facilities on the main campus.
“I think this was a very good day; there were diverse, interesting, and fun activities. The university’s sports fields are quite large and well-equipped, which I did not expect,” said Valentina Hernández, a mathematics student.

The students also expressed their gratitude to the university administration for organizing the orientation week, which allowed them to learn firsthand about the institutional pedagogical model, the mission and vision of the UIS, as well as the various academic and training support tools available.
“I thought the sports day was a great way to meet people, integrate, and share with my classmates. Overall, the orientation week was very valuable because they told us about all the opportunities we have at the university,” said Santiago Conde, a systems engineering student.
