Sandra Quiroga, professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine, presented her research project entitled “Development of a prototype board game as a formal teaching tool in formal medical education in the field of pediatrics,” funded by the VIE.
As part of this research, the professor disseminated her work through various channels: 1) Presentation at the International University Congress on Communication, Innovation, Research, and Teaching CUICIID 2025, Complutense University, Madrid, Spain, and 2) Presentation PED Wisdom, the board game created as a teaching tool in medical education and work in poster format.
The game is a card game with cooperative and competitive components, where strategy and deck building are the main game mechanics, allowing players to face experiences where they must use communication strategies, resource management, and planning, while reinforce disciplinary themes related to the process of preparing medical records and therapeutic medical approaches to stabilization in an emergency department.
“The inclusion of formal games in medical education allows teaching and learning processes to be adapted to new generations and achieve an effective and dynamic balance in the articulation of the educational process with health care, the interests of the student population, their way of perceiving the world, and the maintenance of academic excellence,” the professor pointed out.
