The Central Library of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) has scheduled a series of activities to commemorate World Book Day this Thursday, April 23—a date that pays tribute to the legacy of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the renowned Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright, author of works such as *La Galatea* and *Don Quijote de la Mancha*.

With the aim of promoting reading and writing within the university community, the Library has organized various initiatives. Among them is the “Book Swap Table,” a space where attendees can exchange their printed books for copies available at the institution. The activity will take place on the first floor, starting at 9:00 a.m.

At the same time and in the same location, “Leerflix” will take place, an event featuring the display of special collections with works by authors recognized worldwide for their contributions to language and literature. This space will be accompanied by writing and discussion activities to encourage the exchange of ideas.

Additionally, two in-person workshops will be held to strengthen participants’ research skills, focusing on search strategies and the use of reliable sources for academic work. These sessions will take place at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in Database Room No. 3, located on the second floor. Prior registration is required to participate.

During the afternoon, the Library will test students’ reading and writing skills through spelling bees, tongue twisters, and other fun activities. Staff members will visit the different floors to invite the community to participate and win prizes.

To conclude the program, and in collaboration with the University Professors’ Union (ASPU), UIS chapter, there will be a talk titled “Literature, Photography, and Community,” led by photographer and media professional Pastor Virviescas, winner of the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award in 2003, 2006, and 2011. This event is part of the photography exhibition “Alfredo Molano’s Footprints in Santurbán,” on display in the Library’s exhibition hall, and will take place at 3:00 p.m.

Through this program, the UIS continues to promote culture, reading, and critical thinking within the university community.
