Professor Mauricio Ramírez. School of Microbiology
Mauricio Ramírez Castrillón, professor of the School of Microbiology, participated in the “National Meeting of Yeasts”, held on May 26 and 27, at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), and organized by the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) of Yeasts, Brazil.
Professor Ramírez Castrillón is a biologist from Universidad del Valle, Master in Cellular and Molecular Biology, PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Biotechnology Center of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and associate researcher at Minciencias, with particular interest in biotechnology and bioprocesses using yeasts and other fungi.
The participation of Professor Mauricio Ramirez was through the presentation of the poster: “Construction of genome-based metabolic models for lipid production in two lineages of Aureobasidium”. The results show a draft of metabolic models aimed at lipid production using computer simulations of their growth.
During the event, various topics related to yeasts, Biodiversity and taxonomy, Omics, Biotechnological innovations and Bioprocesses were addressed.
In addition to the poster presentation, conversations were also initiated with professors from several Universities in Brazil, some of them with active agreements, and others with possibilities of initiating academic collaborations. Among them, Professor Carlos Augusto Rosa, director of INCT Leveduras, curator of the Microorganisms Collection of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Also with Professor Melissa Fontes Landell, from the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), Maceió, Alagoas; Professor Marcos Antonio Zachia Ayub, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS); Professor Sergio Alves, from the Federal University of Fronteira Sul (UFFS), and Dr. Luciana Brandao, CEO of the Laboratorio da Cervejaria, Minas Gerais.
This activity was made possible thanks to the ICETEX mobility program and the international experts program.
