The Universidad Indsutrial de Santander (UIS) continues to strengthen its efficient and participatory management model. The Superior Council approved Agreement No. 045 of 2025, a measure that redefines decision-making levels in undergraduate academic procedures, granting greater autonomy to schools, departments, and faculties.

This step marks a significant advance in the modernization of academic management, allowing student processes to be handled more quickly, closely, and efficiently, in line with the institutional commitment to offer a modern education centered on student well-being.

Among the main updates, the agreement establishes that school or department directors will now be able to directly resolve requests such as the late addition or withdrawal of courses, authorization of make-up exams, ordinary readmissions, and registration validations. Likewise, school or program councils will handle decisions related to course equivalencies, grade corrections, late withdrawals, and out-of-term readmissions, while faculty councils will manage appeals and other procedures not assigned to lower instances.

For Nicolás Serrano, the student representative on the Superior Council, this change represents a direct benefit for the student community: “One of the main advantages is that the School Council will be able to approve late readmissions up to two weeks before academic registration. This speeds up processes that previously depended on the Academic Council and can now be resolved at the school, faculty, or program level,” he emphasized.

For her part, Diana Ariza, student representative on the Academic Council, emphasized that this measure reduces bureaucratic delays and promotes greater student participation in academic decision-making: “This agreement is important because it reduces bureaucratic procedures and response times for academic requests. In addition, it incorporates one of our proposals: that appeals to decisions made by school directors be reviewed by the School Council, ensuring the presence of a student representative in that process,” she explained.

Agreement No. 045, issued on October 17, 2025, replaces the previous Agreement No. 007 of 2015 and updates the procedures of the Undergraduate Student Academic Regulations, in line with the principles of autonomy, comprehensive education, and institutional modernization.

With this decision, UIS reaffirms its commitment to a more efficient, modern, and participatory university—one that places students at the center of academic decision-making and continues to advance its mission of transforming public higher education with quality and accessibility.
