Scientific knowledge and health education continue to cross borders. Marlon Toscano, a graduate of the School of Microbiology at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) and holder of a master’s degree in Innovation and Technologies for Education, recently appeared on Telemundo’s “Hoy Día” program—one of the most widely watched Hispanic television shows in the United States—where he shared recommendations on food safety.
During the segment, the microbiologist addressed issues related to proper food handling and the prevention of health risks associated with the consumption of ready-to-serve products at parties and social gatherings, highlighting practices that help protect people’s health and prevent foodborne illnesses.
In addition to his professional work as a science teacher at the José Antonio Galán Institute in the municipality of Floridablanca, Santander, since 2024, Marlon Toscano leads “Me Sabe a Ciencia,” a digital outreach initiative with a presence on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, where he shares educational content on food microbiology, food safety, and food handling, with the aim of bringing scientific knowledge to households, food establishments, and the general public.
Their participation on the international stage reflects the commitment of UIS graduates to promoting public health, education, and the social appropriation of knowledge, carrying the banner of the Industrial University of Santander to venues with a global reach.
