
Attention UIS students: If you are interested in becoming the Student Representative to the Consejo Académico, this information is for you.
Starting today, Monday, April 6, the application period opens for students interested in running in the election process for student representation to the Consejo Académico.
Applicants who wish to participate must register by sending an email—preferably from their institutional account—to the Office of the Secretaría General at (sgeneral@uis.edu.co). In this message, they must express their free and informed intention to register as a candidate and include their full name, identification document, alternative email address, university ID number, and academic program.
Additionally, applicants must attach a 3 x 4 cm color photograph and complete the commitment form available at the following link:

Consejo Académico
Higher Agreement No. 166 of 1993 – General Statute, Article 23. Functions of the Consejo Académico
a. Propose to the Consejo Superior, research, extension, student welfare, and institutional planning policies.
b. Decide on the academic development of the University regarding academic programs, research, extension, and student welfare.
c. Define evaluation processes for academic programs and faculty performance.
d. Organize the University’s participation in the National Accreditation System.
e. Approve the creation, modification, suspension, or closure of undergraduate and graduate programs, in accordance with policies approved by the Superior Council.
f. Propose to the Consejo Superior the creation, elimination, or modification of academic units, in accordance with current regulations.
g. Propose academic policies concerning faculty and students.
h. Review the budget prepared by academic units and recommend it to the Consejo Superior.
i. Serve as the highest appellate body in academic matters, in accordance with current regulations.
j. Approve distinctions such as Distinguished Professor, Emeritus Professor, Honorary Professor, and Doctor Honoris Causa, subject to legal and regulatory requirements.
k. Study and evaluate the University’s general development plan prepared from faculty proposals.
l. Appoint a Dean as representative of academic authorities before the Consejo Superior.
m. Issue and modify the University’s general academic calendar.
n. Provide opinions on academic agreements.
o. Propose University statutes and regulations to the Consejo Superior.
p. Approve the awarding of degrees, prizes, and distinctions, subject to legal and regulatory requirements.
q. Perform any other functions assigned by the General Statute, regulations, and University policies.
Election Timeline
April 6: Opening of candidate registration period, 7:00 a.m.
April 10: Closing of candidate registration period, 4:00 p.m.
April 14: Verification of eligibility requirements by the General Secretariat.
May 14: Election day. Voting will be available on the institutional website from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
May 14: Vote counting at 4:06 p.m.
