The Specialized Health Unit of the Industrial University of Santander, UISALUD, joins in the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week, celebrated from August 1 to 7, in line with the 2025 slogan: “Prioritize breastfeeding: create sustainable support systems.” It is a global invitation to strengthen environments that enable mothers, families, and institutions to actively support this essential practice.
This date, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), highlights the importance of breastfeeding as an effective strategy to protect the health of girls and boys from their first days of life, while contributing to environmental sustainability and the well-being of communities.
According to the WHO, exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months provides all the nutrients an infant needs for healthy growth. From the sixth month onwards, it is recommended to introduce appropriate complementary foods, while continuing to breastfeed until the age of two or beyond. PAHO, for its part, emphasizes that this practice contributes significantly to child survival, prevents disease, strengthens the mother-child bond, and also has benefits for maternal health.
As part of this institutional commitment, UISALUD, recognized as a breastfeeding-friendly entity, actively promotes this practice as a fundamental pillar of public health. Through its healthcare and educational work, the unit guides and supports breastfeeding mothers, strengthening support networks and protective environments for early childhood.
In its commitment to promoting healthy environments, UIS reminds its university community that it has a Breastfeeding Room, located on the first floor of the Mechanical Engineering Building, a dignified, safe, and comfortable space to support breastfeeding mothers who are part of the institution.
The University continues to advance in the consolidation of institutional welfare policies that recognize, protect, and promote rights related to motherhood, health, and care from the earliest moments of life.
