UIS welcomes research graduate students with academic induction day

New research postgraduate students at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) participated in the first welcome and induction day, where they received key and detailed information about academic processes, requirements, pedagogical guidelines, and other fundamental aspects to clearly begin this new stage of training.

“The purpose of this event is to provide information to students entering research graduate programs, master’s degrees, and doctorates, so that they are aware of their rights and obligations as UIS graduate students. In addition, we seek to welcome them and invite them to take advantage of the great effort made by the University for their graduate education,” said Olga Patricia Ortiz, director of UIS Graduate Studies.

For students, especially those who completed their undergraduate studies at other institutions, this space was of great importance, as it allowed them to learn about institutional aspects that were addressed extensively during the event.

“It was a very interesting day, during which we were able to learn about the programs available to graduate students and the different departments that will support us during our time at the university. I am very happy to be starting this journey at UIS,” said Diego Fernando Álvarez, a student in the Master’s program in Sports Talent Development with an Emphasis on Research.

Likewise, for those who are continuing their education at UIS, this time at the graduate level, the event provided an opportunity to address concerns and learn about institutional processes that have undergone renewal.

“I am a UIS graduate and had also worked as a professor, so I was familiar with some of the laboratories; however, today I was able to expand that knowledge and learn about the support offered by the University, for example, in languages, reading clubs, and tools for internships, which are requirements for successfully completing the program,” added Katherine León, a doctoral student in Earth System Science.

The last welcome and orientation day will be held tomorrow and will focus specifically on each of the academic programs.
