The Industrial University of Santander played a prominent role at ACC Latin America 2026, an event held in Medellín and organized by the American College of Cardiology. The event brought together more than 1,000 participants and leading cardiology specialists from Latin America and the United States.
Representing the School of Medicine were three researchers from the Department of Internal Medicine: Dr. Boris Eduardo Vesga Angarita, Dr. Sergio Andrés Higuera Leal, and Dr. Silvia Margarita Moncada Marín, a student in the Internal Medicine Specialization program.
The UIS’s participation took place across various academic settings at the conference. Dr. Boris Vesga served on the scientific organizing committee, chaired a session, and participated in the evaluation of papers presented at the event. Dr. Sergio Higuera, meanwhile, served as an oral presenter with the talk “Chagas Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment.” Likewise, Dr. Silvia Moncada presented the poster “Hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis: An Overlooked Cause of Heart Failure and Polyneuropathy.”
ACC Latin America is an annual conference organized by the American College of Cardiology, designed as a forum for sharing the latest advances in cardiovascular medicine and promoting scientific updates and the strengthening of comprehensive patient care. The event brings together specialists, researchers, and healthcare professionals from various countries across the continent.
For the Department of Internal Medicine at UIS, this participation represents an opportunity to strengthen its presence in international scientific forums and foster academic exchange with specialists from different countries.
The participation of Dr. Boris Vesga, in the scientific organization and as a session chair; Dr. Sergio Higuera, through an oral presentation; and Dr. Silvia Moncada, with a poster presentation, demonstrates the involvement of faculty and students from the School of Medicine in various forms of academic engagement.
In this way, the UIS continues to showcase the work of its academic community in high-level scientific forums, strengthening the processes of training, continuing education, and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
