The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) actively participated in the face-to-face phase of the GLOSOUTH project, a South-South cooperation initiative between Colombia and South Africa that seeks to strengthen the internationalization of higher education through dialogue, the exchange of good practices and the building of strategic alliances.
On behalf of the UIS, Nidia Jaimes, Academic Cooperation professional from the Office of External Relations, had an outstanding participation in dialogue spaces, collaborative workshops and strategic planning sessions. These meetings, held from June 7 to 11, allowed the university to showcase the work it has been doing in internationalization and consolidate its commitment to regional and global development through education.
The event was held at various venues in Bogota, such as the Catholic University of Colombia, where the official opening was held in the presence of the Colombian Ministry of Education and the South African Vice-Minister of Education. At UNIMINUTO’s headquarters, exchanges of experiences in areas such as art, health, architecture, international curriculum and academic mobility took place.
The presence of the South African delegation was fundamental to consolidate a collaborative work and project future joint initiatives. Within this framework, the UIS opens new possibilities for academic and scientific cooperation with institutions in both countries, reaffirming its role as a key player in the international projection of Colombian higher education.
Among the outstanding representatives of South African universities were Anisa Khan from the University of Johannesburg, Moses Pieterse from the University of the Witwatersrand and PhD. Carlien Jooste from the Sefako Makgatho University of Health Sciences, who shared common visions and challenges on the road to a more equitable, connected and global higher education.
With its participation in GLOSOUTH, the UIS continues to expand cooperation networks that positively impact the academic community and contribute to position the institution as an international reference in education, research and innovation.
