The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), Sede Málaga, in partnership with the Gobernación de Santander, held a Special Passport Day on August 11, aimed at members of the university community and their families. The initiative allowed faculty members, students, administrative staff, and parents to complete the passport application process without having to travel to Bucaramanga.
From the early hours of the morning, the Main Auditorium of the UIS Sede Málaga was set up to receive the beneficiaries of the event. Attendees were assisted according to their assigned appointment and arrival time, in a process designed to facilitate and streamline each of the steps required to obtain the passport.
In total, approximately 85 people had the opportunity to complete the procedure directly with the Oficina de Pasaportes de Santander, bringing this service closer to the university community and residents of the region.
Walezka Quintero, coordinator of the Oficina de Pasaportes de Santander, explained that the event is part of an initiative jointly promoted by the Gobernación de Santander and the Universidad Industrial de Santander to bring passport services to different areas of the department.
“The main objective is to decentralize passport issuance, making it much more accessible to people who live in the provinces,” Quintero stated.
The official highlighted the importance of creating alternatives that allow citizens to complete institutional procedures without having to travel to the main cities of the department. In this regard, special events such as this one seek to strengthen institutional presence in the provinces and facilitate access to services for communities located far from the departmental capital.
The Special Passport Day at the UIS Sede Málaga was organized with the support of the members of the Consejo Superior and current representatives of former rectors and graduates, respectively, engineer Miguel José Pinilla Gutiérrez and civil engineer Mario Betancurt.
The event held in Málaga also represents an opportunity to continue strengthening the relationship between the UIS, local government entities, and citizens through actions that facilitate access to procedures and services directly within the regions.
