With outstanding participation and multiple awards, the School of Biology at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) positioned itself as one of the most outstanding institutions at the First Colombian Congress of Limnology and the Tenth Seminar on Limnology, an event that brought together researchers, teachers, and students from across the country to share advances in the study of aquatic ecosystems.
In total, 20 members of the university community, including teachers and undergraduate and graduate students, represented the UIS with 17 research papers, presented in the form of oral presentations and posters. Thanks to its solid scientific output, the School of Biology was among the three universities with the highest number of contributions at the meeting.

“It was a rewarding experience because we were able to connect with other universities in the country that work in limnology and hydrobiology, which is the study of everything related to water at the physical, chemical, social, and biological levels,” said UIS professor Alfonso Pineda, from the School of Biology.
The outcome was overwhelmingly positive: undergraduate and graduate students won awards for the best papers at the conference with four research projects, a recognition that demonstrates the commitment, academic rigor, and scientific quality that distinguish the research groups in Hydrobiological Studies and Ichthyology.
These achievements reaffirm the UIS’s leadership in the field of biological sciences and its contribution to the understanding
