Juan José Quintero Olarte, second year resident of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation postgraduate course, and Viviana Pahola Rueda, professor attached to the Department of Surgery, participated in the VII National Congress of Pain and Palliative Care, held by the Colombian Association of Palliative Care in Medellin.

During the event, they obtained the first place in the national poster contest, among 48 research works presented, with the research “Relief of Refractory Angina: the power of neurostimulation”.

The objective of the study was to describe the effect of medullary neurostimulation as a treatment for cardiac angina refractory to medical management and myocardial revascularization, to improve the patient’s functionality, reduce the need for nitrate rescue and decrease pain.

This research was conducted under the coordination of Dr. Luz Elena Cáceres, anesthesiologist specializing in Pain and Palliative Care and Dr. Catalina Gutiérrez, general practitioner, Pain Clinic, Hospital Universitario de Santander.

This multidisciplinary congress, aimed at specialists in pain and palliative care, favored the updating of topics related to pain and palliative care and allowed the sharing of postgraduate research projects related to the area.
