The Universidad Industrial de Santander received the Luis Enrique Figueroa Rey Departmental Journalism Award in the category Best Work in Tourism Promotion of the Department, a recognition that highlights the narrative and visual quality with which territories and their richness are portrayed.
The award was granted to social communicator César Mauricio Olaya Corzo, creative coordinator, photographer, and chronicler of the UIS Office of Communications, for his chronicle Palpitating with the Páramo, included in the institutional book Tesoros Inéditos de Santander 2025.
The chronicle explores the páramos of Santander through a journey across strategic sites in Santurbán and the Almorzadero Páramo, two ecosystems that are fundamental to the department. The narrative guides readers through rivers, lakes, lagoons, landscapes, and representative species of these areas, explains how to reach each location, and describes the environmental characteristics that define each ecosystem, highlighting their natural, scenic, and symbolic value as essential territories for life and water.
In the same competition, UIS also received a nomination in the category Best Chronicle or Press Feature for the work of collaborators Fernando Rivero and Yuriana Calderón, thanks to the chronicle Lepanthes garciarovirensis Orchid: A Tiny Santander Native of Great Beauty, published in the institutional newspaper Cátedra Libre.

This journalistic piece recounts the discovery of a new orchid species in the province of García Rovira, the result of research conducted by UIS scientists. The chronicle combines scientific rigor with a sensitive narrative that highlights Santander’s biodiversity and the impact of knowledge generated by the public university.
These recognitions underscore the commitment of the Universidad Industrial de Santander and its communications team to journalism that disseminates science, gives visibility to the territory, and contributes to the construction of regional identity through well-told stories.
