UIS presente en la Cumbre Internacional del Agua

In the framework of the First International Water Summit, which takes place at the Neomundo Convention Center, the Universidad Industrial de Santander is present with an outstanding academic, scientific and territorial participation, reaffirming its commitment to the conservation of water resources and strategic ecosystems such as forests and moorland.

With the attendance of representatives from the public and private sectors, environmental authorities and academia, the event brings together hundreds of people in a space for dialogue, knowledge and construction of solutions for integrated water management. From the UIS Malaga Campus, the actions that the university has been developing in favor of the protection of natural resources are socialized.

During his speech, Professor Diego Suescún Carvajal, coordinator of the Forestry Engineering program, highlighted the importance of these meetings to strengthen joint work between different sectors.

“This event is fundamental. It allows us to establish strategic relationships and think about joint projects for water management. From the academy we reaffirm our commitment to conservation and knowledge of the territory,” he said.

The participation of the UIS has also been recognized by the attendees. Jhoanna Gutiérrez, participant of the event, highlighted the impact of the university’s research projects on the protection of water and the páramo:

“The UIS contributes a lot to the care of our ecosystems. I found it very valuable to know that they have identified a new orchid and a new species of frailejón. We only take care of what we know, and how good to find the UIS in this very necessary space”.

For her part, Silvia Pérez, an eleventh grade student at the Antonio Lebrija School, expressed her interest in learning about the university’s academic offerings:

“I was surprised to learn that the UIS has a Forestry Engineering program. It is an area that contributes to the care of water, which is precisely the topic that brings us together here today,” he said.

In the UIS Ecostand, a sample of its main projects and research is presented where visitors can learn about initiatives related to soil conservation, erosion control, water quality and biodiversity.

The university’s participation extends until Friday, July 11, consolidating the Universidad Industrial de Santander as a key player in the processes of training, research and sustainable management of water resources in northeastern Colombia.
