A delegation from the Chinese multinational technology company Huawei, led by its CEO in Colombia, Forest Liu, visited the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) with the aim of establishing cooperation partnerships in key areas such as technology, artificial intelligence, science and innovation.
“One of our main goals is to bring the latest technology to Colombia to improve connectivity and build a smarter country. We want to start a new cooperation, being allies of the UIS, to contribute to strengthening education and the future of the country,” said Forest Liu, CEO of Huawei Colombia.
The delegation highlighted that this first meeting was very fruitful and that there is great potential to develop mutually beneficial agreements. Huawei, which has already established partnerships with more than 20 higher education institutions in Colombia, sees in the UIS a strategic partner to advance technologies such as 5G, big data, artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
“We are looking at opportunities for cooperation in areas such as 5G, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud. We believe we can build a strong partnership to train more talents in these key areas for the country,” Liu added.

During their visit, the company representatives also praised the scientific development, the infrastructure of UIS and the beauty of its campus.
“They have a very beautiful campus. We know that UIS is one of the most recognized and important universities in the country, with more than 20,000 active students. There is a lot of potential here for the future of Colombia,” he emphasized.
For their part, the University’s directors agreed on the importance of this rapprochement, highlighting the opportunities that could arise to strengthen programs that integrate science, technology, artificial intelligence and energy transition.
“We consider that this approach has been very positive. We are familiar with Huawei’s work in Colombia and around the world, and we value their interest in sharing experiences on strategic alliances with university institutions. We hope to finalize a cooperation agreement in the near future,” said Gerardo Latorre Bayona, administrative vice-rector.

In addition, the praise for the institutional advances in different areas filled the University’s directors with pride, and they reiterated their commitment to academic and scientific excellence.
“It fills us with satisfaction that international visitors value the progress achieved in recent years under the leadership of Professor Hernán Porras as rector. We hope that this collaboration will lead to the creation of new laboratories and practical experiences that will benefit future engineers, biomedical engineers and professionals in different areas,” concluded Latorre Bayona.
