The new academic program will strengthen the presence of the Universidad Industrial de Santander in northeastern Colombia and expand professional training opportunities in the agricultural sector.
The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to consolidate its academic regionalization process with the granting of the qualified registration for the Agronomic Engineering program, which will be offered in a face-to-face modality in the municipality of Málaga, Santander.
The approval was granted by the Ministry of National Education through Resolution No. 008082 dated March 20, 2026, a key step that enables the institution to expand its educational coverage in the territory and respond to the needs of the agricultural sector in the region.
The program was previously created by the UIS Academic Council through Agreement No. 352 dated December 9, 2025. It will consist of a total of 128 academic credits, an estimated duration of eight semesters, and a semester-based admission of 40 students, allowing for the training of highly qualified professionals in the agronomic field.
The University’s Rector’s Office highlighted the coordinated work of the UIS Málaga campus and the Institute for Regional Outreach and Distance Education, whose efforts have been essential in making the arrival of this new academic program to the region possible.
This initiative is part of the institution’s regionalization strategy, which seeks to bring higher education closer to different municipalities across the country, reduce access gaps, and generate greater training opportunities for young people in northeastern Colombia.
Likewise, the launch of the Agronomic Engineering program responds to the productive vocation of the García Rovira province, an area with high potential in the agricultural sector. In this regard, UIS is committed to training human talent that contributes to sustainable development, innovation in the field, and the strengthening of the local economy.
With this new program, the Universidad Industrial de Santander reaffirms its commitment to educational quality, academic relevance, and regional development, consolidating itself as a leading institution in the training of professionals who contribute to the country’s progress.
