The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), through its Málaga campus, continues to consolidate progress on the construction of its new university campus, a strategic project for regional development that has been characterized by its responsible approach, openness to community dialogue, and commitment to environmental protection.
As part of an institutional strategy focused on active listening and joint collaboration with the community, UIS has consistently held meetings and working groups with community leaders, municipal authorities, and technical entities in the municipality. These meetings have strengthened communication channels, addressed citizens’ concerns, and generated timely solutions throughout the development of the project.
One of these dialogue spaces brought together university representatives, contractors, municipal officials, and members of the community action boards from the Limonar and Prados de Sevilla neighborhoods, areas adjacent to the project. The main purpose of the meeting was to share updates on construction progress, listen to residents’ observations, and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to community well-being.
During the session, UIS was accompanied by officials from the Police Inspection Office, the Office of Planning and Risk Management, and Málaga Public Utilities, who supported the review of the issues presented.

Institutional representatives conducted site visits to the homes identified, verifying each case on the ground and evaluating solution alternatives. This process made it possible to move toward concrete agreements and foster a climate of trust with the community. Such dynamics have been key to ensuring that campus development progresses in harmony with the surrounding social environment.
Additionally, UIS reaffirmed its environmental commitment, highlighting the care and preservation of a water spring located along the campus boundary, which will be fully protected as part of the project’s sustainability actions.
From the community, neighborhood leaders have acknowledged the work carried out by the university. Edilma Rivera, president of the community action board of the Limonar neighborhood, stated: “We see the enormous progress UIS is making; as of today, it is a very big surprise. We appreciate the visit and the magnificent project being built for our municipality of Málaga and our province.”
Likewise, Diana Carolina Gómez, president of the Prados de Sevilla community board, highlighted the ongoing commitment of the Industrial University of Santander to the protection of natural resources, especially the water sources near the Málaga campus.

The new university campus is advancing as an emblematic project for the region, reflecting UIS’s institutional effort to strengthen higher education, promote territorial development, and build strong relationships with the community.
