Amid the construction process of its new university campus, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), Málaga campus, has put into operation a new university shuttle route aimed at improving mobility for the student community and strengthening coordination among the three temporary sites where academic activities are currently carried out.
The implementation of this service responds to a priority need for students, who must travel daily between different points in the municipality to attend classes, practical sessions, and other academic commitments. The university shuttle route emerges as an institutional strategy designed to ensure more favorable conditions for access, retention, and well-being in higher education.
The new shuttle operates under a schedule of routes every two hours, allowing for better travel planning and contributing to punctual starts of academic activities. This institutional transportation system offers a safe and efficient alternative to walking, which previously involved long journeys between campuses.
Since its launch, the initiative has been well received by the student community, which has highlighted the significant reduction in travel times. Jassari Novoa, a student in the Animal Science (Zootecnia) program, noted that “the route cuts down the time students might spend walking; what could be a half-hour walk becomes just a few minutes.”
The coordination office of the UIS Málaga campus emphasized that this achievement is the result of joint work with the University’s central administration, led by Rector Hernán Porras. In this regard, campus coordinator Sandra Díaz stated that “thanks to the management from the Rector’s Office, this semester students will be able to rely on a route that facilitates the integration of the three sites where we are carrying out academic work.”
The university shuttle route not only optimizes mobility but also strengthens academic and institutional integration by enabling greater connection among students, faculty, and administrative staff who carry out their activities in different physical spaces.
From the UIS Málaga campus, the importance of making appropriate and responsible use of this benefit was reiterated, as it is conceived as direct support for the university community. With this initiative, the Industrial University of Santander reaffirms its commitment to student well-being and to the consolidation of accessible higher education, while advancing the project of the new campus that will strengthen its institutional presence in the García Rovira province.
