The School of Mechanical Engineering at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) will host, from October 8 to 12, 2025, an academic and competitive event that will bring together experts, researchers, students, and universities from across the country to discuss sustainability, technological innovation, and alternative mobility.
The event will feature two main components. The first will be the Workshop “New Technologies for Sustainable and Environmental Development,” taking place on October 8 and 9. This space will include participants from the productive sector, researchers, and students who will analyze advances in technological innovation applied to environmental protection.
In addition, the national panel discussion “Dialogues for a Just Energy Transition in the Territories: Access to Information, Participation, and Governance,” led by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, will be held as part of the country’s energy transition agenda.

The academic program will also include seminars, project presentations, and showcases of research group results, strengthening UIS’s position as a leading institution in the training of engineers with a sustainable vision.
The second component will be the 11th National Human-Powered Vehicle Competition (VTH) 2025, to be held from October 10 to 12. This event will bring together 11 design teams from 9 Colombian universities, who will test their creativity and skills in building vehicles powered solely by human strength. The participating institutions are:
- Universidad Libre
- Universidad EAFIT
- Universidad Autónoma de Occidente
- Universidad del Valle
- Universidad de Antioquia (2 teams)
- Universidad Industrial de Santander (2 teams)
- Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana – Medellín
- Universidad de La Guajira
- Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana – Bucaramanga
The National VTH Competition is recognized nationwide as a platform that combines innovation, engineering, and sustainability, inspiring the creativity of the country’s future engineers year after year.
Through this event, UIS reaffirms its commitment to science, research, and the comprehensive education of its students, positioning itself as a key player in developing sustainable technological solutions and promoting a model of development that respects the environment.
