The Universidad Indsutrial de Santander (UIS) continues transforming its urban surroundings with the rehabilitation and improvement of the access road along Carrera 25, a strategic intervention that optimizes mobility to institutional parking areas and the new building of the Faculty of Physicomechanical Engineering, while benefiting students, faculty, neighbors, and users of the area.

The project includes the rehabilitation of 485 square meters of roadway through the application of a seal asphalt layer, which restores the existing pavement and significantly improves traffic conditions, safety, and accessibility along one of the most important corridors of the Central Campus.

“At this time, we are carrying out asphalt recovery works to improve the road and access to the university, specifically toward the new building of the Faculty of Physicomechanical Engineering. This intervention directly benefits students and the entire community by providing a safer, more functional road in better condition,” explained Johana Badillo, resident engineer for the project.

Badillo emphasized that this is a comprehensive intervention led by UIS that not only addresses the institution’s internal needs but also positively impacts the urban environment. “These 485 square meters of asphalt pavement improve both the road and access, not only for the university community but also for neighborhood residents,” she noted.

Neighborhood voices: a project that dignifies the surroundings

The impact of the project has also been recognized by local residents. Tobías Arenas, a neighbor living near Carrera 25 and Sixth Street, highlighted the positive change brought by the intervention. “The project turned out very nice, very elegant. The street and entrance improved a lot—it gives more life to the corner, better visibility, and above all, more safety. It’s a benefit for the entire neighborhood,” he said.

Likewise, Jorge Bustos, a longtime resident of the area, underscored the contribution of the new intersection to mobility. “I think it’s magnificent. There used to be traffic jams, but this entrance represents progress for everyone. Living near UIS is a source of pride; it’s one of the best universities in the country, and having it as a neighbor is the best that could happen to us,” he stated.

With this intervention, the Industrial University of Santander advances in improving infrastructure, promoting sustainable mobility, and fostering harmonious integration with its surroundings, consolidating its role as a key actor in the urban and social development of Bucaramanga.

The new access road along Carrera 25 not only facilitates entry to the campus and the Faculty of Physicomechanical Engineering but also strengthens the relationship between the university and the community, creating safer, more functional, and dignified spaces for all.
