UIS Clinical Laboratory led training for doctors and nursing managers at Student Welfare

Equipo de laboratorio clínico y bienestar

Thanks to the guidance of Diana Ortega, coordinator of the UIS Clinical Laboratory, and the support of Albert Adrián Rojas, a graduate of the School of Microbiology, training was provided to doctors and nursing managers at Student Welfare on updates to POCT (Point Of Care Testing) and diagnostic algorithms established in Resolution 1314 of 2020 of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

These tests refer to laboratory analyses performed at the same location where the patient is located (such as an emergency room, doctor’s office, brigade, or at home), rather than sending them to a centralized laboratory.

In turn, the regulations establish guidelines for performing rapid tests and algorithms for the diagnosis of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C outside the clinical laboratory.

This methodology seeks to facilitate the early diagnosis of these infections, expand the spaces for taking these tests, and ensure that the personnel who perform them are properly trained, thus promoting prevention and access to public health for the student community.
