As part of the commemoration of World Mental Health Day, the Listening Center was opened at the UIS Faculty of Health.
“The University’s Listening Center has been operating for two years. One of the purposes was to have it here at the Faculty of Health. It is wonderful that today, October 10, World Mental Health Day, we are inaugurating this space that will contribute to mental health and the balance that human beings need. It is an effort made by the university’s central administration and our Mental Health Department to provide support in difficult times,” said Dr. Jürg Niederbacher, dean of the Faculty of Health.
This space, created to welcome, accompany, and provide emotional support to the entire university community—faculty, students, and administrative staff—was born as a response to the commitment of the University and the School to comprehensive well-being, mental health, and the construction of more humane and empathetic environments. Here, every voice will be heard and valued, reaffirming that caring for others is caring for each other.
“It is a very important space for students in the Faculty of Health when they are in crisis or have emotional needs,” said Ana Sofía, student representative of the Faculty of Health.
No appointment necessary, no complex situation required—this space will be a gift for self-care. “This opening is a great opportunity to continue working for mental health. This space becomes an opportunity to be closer to related professionals, psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers, and to have more direct contact,” said María Andrea Rodríguez Pareja, psychologist at the Listening Center.
