As part of World Book Day, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) commemorated the occasion with a program of activities open to the entire academic community, aimed at promoting reading and the value of the written word.
The program included the “Book Swap Table,” a space where students, faculty, and staff exchanged printed books to refresh their personal libraries, as well as “Leerflix,” an exhibition of special collections featuring works by authors recognized for their contributions to language and literature.
According to Tania Trespalacios, a staff member at the Central Library, the event aimed to celebrate the Spanish language as part of Language Day. “Each activity focused on highlighting the importance of Spanish, the second most widely spoken language in the world. The book swap, for example, allowed participants to give new life to books they had already read by exchanging them for others that interested them,” she explained.

The event aimed to promote reading, creativity, and knowledge, as well as to pay tribute to the legacy of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and his invaluable contribution to world literature.
“Interest in reading has been growing every year, especially thanks to the various strategies we’ve implemented at the library to show students the wide range of materials and titles we have available. So we develop the strategies, and they come in to browse and borrow books,” said Trespalacios.

The event featured other activities such as workshops aimed at strengthening research skills, information retrieval, and the use of reliable sources for academic work, as well as contests in reading and writing skills, spelling, and tongue twisters, among other fun activities.
