On August 29, a delegation of business leaders from Montería, capital of the department of Córdoba, visited the Guatiguará Technology Park (PTG) at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) to learn about its capabilities in research, development, and innovation.
The delegation was made up of representatives from the private sector in strategic areas such as health, the environment, agribusiness, biotechnology, and information and communications technology (ICT). The tour was led by the Vice-Rector for Research and Extension, Cristian Blando Tirado, PTG coordinator Jaime Alberto Camacho Pico, and Professor Nelson Rodríguez López, director of the ABC Biotechnology and Agribusiness Center, who presented the Park’s logistical and infrastructure strengths, as well as the work carried out by UIS research groups, made up of professors and students who develop projects with high regional and national impact.

During the event, Cordoba businessmen Elkin Quiñones, Walberto Buelvas, and Javier Arellano, as well as Osvaldo Sanabria, director of the Caribbean Center for Development and Technological Innovation, expressed their interest in using the Guatiguará Technology Park model as a reference for creating a similar ecosystem in their region, with the aim of promoting socioeconomic, environmental, and social transformation in Cordoba. In this regard, they requested the support of the UIS through strategic alliances, advisory services, and consulting to generate joint developments and transfer the experience accumulated in Bucaramanga to Montería.
With this approach, the Guatiguará Technology Park reaffirms its position as a national benchmark in science, technology, and innovation, and projects itself as a key ally for strengthening initiatives that seek to boost regional development through the generation of knowledge and collaborative work between academia and the productive sector.
